My Vision at Google

📍 Where It Starts – Software Engineer, Android Consumer Experiences

  • I’m applying for the Software Engineer, Android Consumer Experiences role.
  • This team’s use of Flutter and its focus on mobile/wearables deeply excites me.
  • I bring:
    • 2 years of building real-world Flutter apps (including native Kotlin integration)
    • Experience collaborating in Agile/Scrum teams at SSW
    • Strong fundamentals in clean architecture, testing, pull request workflows, and shipping features
  • My goal: to grow as an engineer through mentorship, deep collaboration, and building products at Google-scale.

🌍 What I Admire – Google’s Ecosystem & Culture

  • I’ve followed the Flutter YouTube channel and GitHub repos for years
  • I admire Google’s:
    • Open-source leadership (Flutter, Dart, Firebase)
    • Unmatched scale of impact (Search, Maps, Gmail, Android)
    • Culture of internal growth and innovation
  • To me, Google isn’t just a company — it’s a platform for purposeful growth

🔭 Where I’m Headed – Long-Term Vision

1. Developer Relations & Dev Advocacy

I want to:

  • Teach through content, tutorials, and talks
(dream: appear on the Flutter YouTube channel with Craig, Khanh, Andrew, & Kate 👋)
  • Explain tech in ways that resonate with all skill levels — from beginners to senior devs
  • Support or organize Google Developer Group (GDG) events across Australia
(especially here in Newcastle — we don’t have one yet!)

2. Open Source Contributions

  • Contribute to Flutter, Dart, Firebase, or even internal SDKs/tools
  • Continue building & maintaining Dart/Flutter packages
    (e.g. rough_notation, polar-dart)

3. Google Summer of Code (GSoC)

  • I was a GSoC 2024 contributor (Flutter frontend + Firebase backend)
  • I’d love to give back by mentoring contributors and supporting the amazing GSoC team
(shoutout to Stephanie, Mary, and Lucila — you three run an incredible program 🙌)

🌟 Bonus Goal – Become a GDE (Google Developer Expert)

  • I aim to earn the GDE title for Flutter
  • Not for the badge — but because:
    • I want to give back meaningfully to the community
    • I want to represent everyday devs — especially from places like Newcastle
  • I may not know a Googler who can nominate me yet — but after this, I may know 2 or 3. Yes, I am talking about you guys.

❤️ Why This Matters

Google isn’t just a tech company — it’s part of our everyday vocabulary.
Working here means having the power to do good at massive scale.
For someone like me — who genuinely cares about people — that’s not just exciting.
That’s a responsibility I’d be proud to carry.
